PML-N not to let democracy derail: Shahbaz

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at his residence here on Monday.

During the meeting which continued for about two hours, the two leaders exchanged views on various matters with special focus on the prevailing political situation in the country.The Prime Minister said difference of opinion was the beauty of democracy which had to be strengthened at every cost in the interest of the country.Mian Shahbaz Sharif said democracy became a reality only after a long struggle against dictatorial regimes and the PML-N would not let democracy derail in the country.

He said the PML-N wanted democracy to flourish in the country adding that any decision on the current political situation would be taken in the party meeting convened on Tuesday. The Prime Minister said, “If a party decides to sit on opposition benches in parliament, it can be persuaded to return through dialogue.”

Punjab Chief Minister briefed the PM regarding his recent visit to Turkey and conveyed greetings of Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to the premier.

He told how he persuaded Turkish businessmen, traders and investors to invest in Punjab. Shahbaz Sharif also discussed various ongoing development projects in southern Punjab – APP
