CHRISTINA Palmer, the ace sleuth of The Daily Mail, has come out with yet another daring exposé, this time regarding India’s controversial opposition and hardliner extremist leader Lal Krishna Advani, who has claimed that American leaders were convinced during the 1971 war that then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was thinking of breaking up West Pakistan and occupying Pakistani Kashmir. Quoting a new book, Advani wrote in his blog that the question about Gandhi’s objectives had been on his mind after he read “Bangladesh Liberation War: Myths and Facts” by BZ Khasru, the editor of a New York financial publication. “A question that had been on my mind since some weeks was: when in 1971 Indiraji decided to help Sheikh Mujibur Rahman carve out an independent Bangladesh for the Bengalis of East Pakistan, was she also simultaneously thinking of an operation in West Pakistan aimed to achieve two major objectives, namely to balkanize West Pakistan, and to liberate Pakistan occupied Kashmir,” Advani said.

“Till now I have never before heard anyone else even suggest this. But this book carries ample data to show that whether or not Gandhi actually contemplated to achieve these objectives, Washington’s top leaders of those times, President Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger, the president’s national security adviser, were both convinced that Gandhi was seriously thinking of action in that direction, and that the Soviets were likely to help India in achieving its objective,” he said.Advani is a contentious leader, who has been a member of the militant Hindu group RSS, although he is originally a Sikh, he has been hiding his origins and has tried to prove himself a notorious Muslim hater and a devout Hindu and directly responsible for the desecration and demolition of the historical Babri Masjid. Under Advani, the BJP launched a violent agitation on the issue of rebuilding Ram temple in Ram’s supposed birthplace Ayodhya, which was criticized to be a response to limit the damage caused to his party due to V.P. Singh’s Mandal Commission politics. For quite a while it had been the demand of Vishwa Hindu Parishad that a temple be built at the site of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, claiming that it had been built over the ruins of a Rama temple allegedly destroyed by Mughal king Babur.

The movement gained momentum in 1989, when Advani embarked on a “Rath yatra” to mobilize “karsevaks” to converge upon the Babri Masjid to offer prayers. This Rath Yatra, undertaken in an air-conditioned van decorated to look like a chariot, started from Somnath in Gujarat and had covered a large part of Northern India until it was brought to a halt by the Chief Minister of Bihar, Laloo Prasad Yadav. However by then, over 564 Muslims were killed in a surge of communal violence that followed the trail of Advani’s cavalcade. Radicalized supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party, egged on by the hate ridden speeches made by Advani, resorted to violence aimed squarely at Muslims. This movement caused a polarization of votes on communal lines and helped the BJP cross fresh boundaries, especially in North India. In the 1991 general elections, the BJP came second after the Congress party in terms of seats.

In 1992, two years after Advani ended his yatra, despite assurances given by the Kalyan Singh led BJP Government to the Supreme Court; the Babri Masjid was demolished by the “karsevaks” with alleged complicity of the Kalyan Singh government. Advani is one of the main accused in the Babri Masjid case and stands accused of having instigated organized gangs of rioters into demolishing the mosque. It is important to note that in the backlash of the demolition of Babri Masjid, thousands of Muslims were massacred. Thus Advani is directly and indirectly responsible for mass genocide of Muslims. Now suddenly Advani has been hit by pangs of his conscience and is making revelations regarding the deceased Indira Gandhi, who wreaked havoc on Pakistan during the 1971 Pak-India war and dismembered the Eastern wing, creating Bangladesh. The Daily Mail asks Mr. Advani, why he kept silent for forty years? – Dailymailnews
