ISLAMABAD: Tennis ace Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi left for New York on Tuesday to participate in various international tournaments of North American Tennis Circuit.During his trip, Aisam will first appear in the ATP 500 Series Tennis Championship in Washington and later in two ATP Masters 1000 Series Championships in Montreal (Canada) and Cincinnati (USA). He will conclude his North American sojourn with an appearance in the US Open Grand Slam Tennis Championship, starting at the end of next month at Flushing Meadows in New York.
Last time Aisam and his Indian partner Rohan Bopanna, known as “The Indo-Pak Express” reached the final of the US Open men’s doubles and suffered defeat at the hands of American top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan.In last year’s event, Aisam and Bopanna had been the story of the tournament with their surprising run through the draw, taking fans on a thrill ride and giving them all a reason to smile.
En route to the final, they took out two seeded teams, including a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 2 seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic. In addition, they won hundreds of new fans not only for their accomplishments and performances on the court, but also for their role as tennis ambassadors in their native countries. – APP
