In the Inter Club Team Match between a 26 member Lahore Gymkhana Golf Team and a 26 member Royal Palm Golf Club Team,contested at the Gymkhana Golf Course on Sunday,the honors went to the host team due to excellent performance by Gymkhana players in the handicap category 10 to 18.
Twelve team members comprising six pairings in this handicap category totally dominated their competitors from Royal Palm and swayed the competition in Gymkhana’s favour by winning all the four ball matches and eight of the singles matches thereby providing their team with 20 points as against four by Royal Palm players.As for the competition amongst players in the handicap category 0 to 9,Royal Palm players had the better of the Gymkhana players and aggregated 15 points as against the host teams 13.However in the overall aggregate Gymkhana team managed a tally of 33 as against Royal Palm’s 19,and became holders of the Inter Club Trophy.
For the Gymkhana team local knowledge of the golf course turned out be advantageous and the performers who took them to the winners rostrum were Sameer Iftikhar and Mohsin Anwar, Qayum Rashid and Zulfiqar Rana, Khurshid Aziz and Dr Khurram Saadat, Hamid Sethi and Qasim Riaz, Tariq Misbah and Ahmed Khalid, Ahad Naeem and Dr Dildar, Omer Zia and Asad Abbas and Asad Niaz and Karamat ullah Chaudry.
The players who won their matches for Royal Palm were Mahd Zafar and Abbas Ali Khan,Mohsen Zafar and Hussain Hamid,Omer Salamat and Faisal Sayid,and in singles those who emerged victorious were Lt Gen M.tariq,Mohsen Zafar,Sardar Murad,Raza ali khan,Abbas Ali Khan,Omer Salamat,Faisal Sayid,Abdullah Sharif,Imran Miraj,Fareed Malik and Hamayun Mian.At the conclusion of the Inter Club Match ,Lt Gen(r)M.Tariq Captain Golf of Royal Palm handed over the glittering trophy to Amer Mehmood Captain Golf of Gymkhana in the presence of Agha ali Imam,Convenor Golf of Lahore Gymkhana.The next championship will be held in November with Royal Palm acting as the host.
