Afzal wins Sindh Open Golf Championship

KARACHI: Muhammad Afzal Mohsin won the 14th Sindh Open Golf Championship with a three-stroke lead against Shabbir Iqbal at picturesque Arabian Sea Golf and Country Club here on Sunday.

Afzal fired the rounds of 66, 69 and 73 to end with an aggregate of 208 to emerge victorious in the field of 54-hole competition. Shabbir was contended with the runner-up spot with a total of 211, three strokes behind Afzal. After making whirlwind start with 6-under-par 66 on the opening day, Shabbir scored 72 and 73 in the last two rounds. Defending champion Muhammad Muneer ended third after rounds of 73, 70, and 70 to card a total of 213.

Ghazanfar Mahmood clinched the amateur event with an aggregate of 222 and rounds of 76, 74, and 72. Muhammad Rehman finished second with 221 and Waseem Rana was third with a total of 226. Sindh Golf Association (SGA) secretary general Ahmed Abdul Bari was the chief guest and presented a glittering silver trophy and cash prize of Rs. 152,900 to Afzal. Shabbir pocketed Rs.102,800 and Muneer received Rs.73, 750 for securing third spot.
