Shabbir Iqbal,a fearless and gallant golf champion of our country,lifted the 1st Sayid Paper Open Golf trophy and a sizeable cash prize after spreadeagling the field of 75 top golf professionals,in a three rounds golf contest at the captivating Defence Raya Golf Course through rounds of 73,68 and 73 and an aggregate of gross 214 which gave him a three stroke edge over Shafiq Masih who had to be content with the runners up slot.
From Shabbir Iqbal,this was another relentlessly efficient performance that provided many enthralling moments to the sponsors,the organisers and those who manage this wonderful and outstanding golf course and Fakhar Imam was right in stating that it produced the perfect touch for the golf professionals who were a part of the competing group.Shabbirs final round battle with Shafiq on his heels,did heat up the battle for a major part of the final round,but then the champion did not slacken even for a brief moment and Shafiqs brilliance could not in any way perturb the ultimate winner and champions march to the title.
This tournament has turned out to be a great event and a history creating time for the professional golfers as they have accomlished all aspects of the event on their own,managed in a way that has established their credentials as a united team quite capable of running their own professional body and affairs.And the young turks to be praised are Talat Ijaz,Hafiz Masih,Akber and quite a few others.The winner Shabbir Iqbal stated that these professionals proved that their colleagues can repose faith in their ability and other tournaments wii soon be forthcoming.
While Shabbir was the overall winner and Shafiq Masih the runner up others who attained positions were Mukammed Arif(221),Talib Hussain(224),Aadil Jehangir(225),Jafal Hussain(226),Matloob Ahmed(226),Muhammed Safdar(227),Shahid Javed Khan(229) and M.Saeed(229).At the conclusion of the championship the prizes were distributed by Faisal Sayid of Sayid Paper Mills who commited to continue sponsorship.Also in attendance was the John,the chief golf suprintendant,Fakhar Imam of Defence Raya and Asad I.A.Khan of Sind Golf,professional and amateur golfers.
