Pakistan coach Waqar Younis has denied interfering with former captain Shahid Afridi’s attempts to run the side.Afridi, 33, quit international cricket earlier this week, saying he would not play while the current Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains in office.”As a coach I have my own domain and I know my job description and I never interfered in Afridi’s job nor in selection affairs,” said Younis.”Afridi was a good captain and I was satisfied with his captaincy.”Last summer Afridi returned to Test cricket as captain after a four-year exile, only to resign from the post after one match. He remained as limited overs captain but had a run-in with the authorities in May this year when he made public comments about “differences within the tour management” during their one-day series win in the West Indies. When he returned home, he added: “I don’t like people interfering in my domain. I think it would be better if everyone focused on his job in the team.”Subsequent to that, Afridi was stripped of the one-day captaincy, which prompted his retirement and criticism of the PCB.As a result of that, the PCB suspended his central contract and revoked his permission to play for Hampshire in the English county Twenty20 tournament, and a Sri Lankan Twenty20 event next month.Younis’s comments indicate that Afridi is unlikely to see a change of attitude from the Board.”I have my own mindset and I always try to concentrate on my job and I will follow the same in future as well as long as I am the coach of the team,” said Younis. – BBC
