LAHORE: An election tribunal of Lahore High Court on Monday issued notices on appeals of a candidate of national assembly and five of Punjab assembly, challenging rejection of their nomination papers by the concerned returning officers (ROs).
The tribunal admitted these appeals for regular hearing and summoned record of nomination papers for Tuesday (today).Azhar Ali challenged the rejection of his papers from NA-103, Lahore while Safdar Iqbal from PP-109, Waheed Asghar and Imran Asghar from PP-224, Nasarullah from PP-107 and Mehar Ayub from PP-91. They pleaded that their papers were rejected without any legal justification.
They said that their papers were rejected on mere allegations and nothing was proved against them. They requested to set aside the decision of ROs.Mian Muhammad Ashfaq and Ibrar Khan Niazi challenged acceptance of nomination papers of former deputy speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan from PP-149, Lahore. Applicants alleged that Rana Mashhood did not give details of his assets in the nomination papers and was also a tax defaulter.They said that the returning officer (RO) ignored the objections and the evidences provided against the former deputy speaker. He requested to set aside the decision of the RO and restrain Rana Mashhood from contesting election.
