Talking to Media in Wednesday’s wee hours, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari said his party discussed the issue at length with party’s MNAs.

MPAs and senators along with the members of Coordination Committee, and decided not to countenance the decision to form military courts. Sabzwari was of the view that the government ought to establish its writ, instead of giving matters into the hands of the army. Muttahida leader Sabzwari asserted, “My party believes that the military courts are violation of human rights. Hence, MQM in principle decided that it will not accept the military courts.” “We will take recourse to the public against this decision,” he added.

The civil government, he asserted, should quit the power if it is unable to uproot the terrorism from the country, adding, “Better than the military courts, a martial law should be enforced in the country.” The MQM leader advised that the government should improve the prosecution procedure and reactivate the anti-terrorism courts and witness protection program. All state resources should be capitalized on for the eradication of this menace, he remarked noting his party seeks absolute extirpation of terrorism from the country.

It should be mentioned here that National Action Plan Committee had prolonged discussion session and propoosed late Tuesday to establish three military courts in the FATA. Having lifted a moratorium on capital punishment hours of Peshawar massacre on December 16, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif mandated the NAPC to frame a consensus anti-terrorism policy with a renewed resolve to eradicate terrorism from the country. –SAMAA
