200 officers deprived of promotions, rightsKARACHI: Favouritism has deprived some 200 officers of the Sindh Police of their deserved promotions as 64 low-grade employees were posted on the vacant positions of Deputy Superinten-dents of Police (DSPs), the Daily Times has learnt.
According to a list obtained here on Tuesday, low-grade personnel have been promoted at higher pay scales on the basis of favouritism that deprived some 200 deserving officers of the province. These low-grade employees, who did not even fulfill the legal criteria, are now enjoying the positions of DSPs. Some 200 officers across Sindh and 97 alone in Karachi had been looking for these postings since long. A police official on the condition of anonymity said that 64 employees were promoted as DSPs despite deserving the positions of Assistant Sub Inspectors, Sub Inspectors and Inspectors under the umbrella of Own Pay and Scale (OPS).

Sources clarified that all such employees had been promoted on their personal and political links. They pointed out that majority of the officers holding positions of DSPs on personal and political references were enjoying extra privileges in special police cells including Anti Violence Crime Cell, Special Investigation Unit and Crime Investigation Department. There are many other officers looking after the security of high profile political personalities, the sources said, adding that they had been promoted by the said personalities for their own security. The DIG Establishment, Shahid Hayat, did not receive phone calls made for his comments on the report despite various attempts. – Dailytimes
