CM gives nod to formation of command and control centres

punjab chief ministerPunjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday granted approval for setting up Coordinated Command and Control Centre in Lahore and other big cities of the province.

He was presiding over a high level meeting at Model Town which reviewed the project of Coordinated Command and Control Centre of Punjab police. He said modern technology would be utilised for eradication of crimes and curbing anti-social elements. He said there was a need for Punjab police to adopt modern technology and evolve an effective system of rooting out crimes. He said the project of Coordinated Command and Control Centre of Punjab police was of vital importance as its implementation would rid the people of Thana culture while a traditional police culture would also be changed.

Provincial Minister Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada, secretary home, inspector general police Punjab, CCPO Lahore and officers concerned were present. An international expert Dr Amanat, who has received training from Britain, gave a briefing on coordinated command and control system. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said the use of modern technology was essential for rooting out crimes and therefore speedy progress be made in this direction. He said police force be introduced to latest technology for fighting crime and improving law and order situation. He said intelligence sharing system could be further improved through the use of modern technology.

He said that the project of command and control centre would help root out criminal elements as well as monitor the performance of police officials at police stations and their behaviour with citizens. He said Punjab government would take all possible measures for transforming Thana culture. He said revolutionary measures would be taken to redress grievances of people at police stations. The chief minister said that coordinated command and control centre should be state-of-the-art and a high standard be maintained in the completion of the proposed project. He said sub-command and control centres will also be set up in every division of Punjab.

The CM constituted a committee to identify suitable site for the establishment of command and control centre and directed the committee to complete the task as soon as possible so that the project could be initiated without any delay. The meeting reviewed various proposals for the implementation of the project expeditiously. Meanwhile, a delegation of prominent German company in energy sector, Energiequelle Gmbh met the chief minister Punjab. Provincial high-ups as well as leader of the delegation of the German company Helmut Fugemann, Michael Heyn, Stefan Rieck and other officials were also present.

The meeting decided to promote cooperation in energy sector while the German company expressed interest in setting up a 100 megawatt solar plant in Punjab. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said sincere efforts were being made for overcoming energy crisis in the country and PML-N government was determined to resolve this problem. He said special incentives were being offered to foreign investors in energy sector. He welcomed the interest shown by the German company in setting up solar plant in Punjab. The head of the German delegation Helmut Fugemann said his company wanted to promote cooperation with Punjab government in energy sector and speedy measures would be taken in this regard. -Dailytimes
