Bloodiest Peshawar Attack -145 Dead Including 132 Children

Taliban insurgents stormed the army-run school in Peshawar on Tuesday, going from classroom to classroom shooting children, some as young as 12, in one of Pakistan’s bloodiest ever attacks.

Militants from the Pakistani Taliban have attacked an army-run school in Peshawar, 145 killed , 132 of them children left 250 injured.

The Director General ISPR Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa said “Similarly, 960 children have been rescued from the school. The explosive material and suicide vests have also been recovered during the operation. The groups involved in the attack have been identified and operations in this regards are in progress.” Families and rescue workers searching for their child information in CMH , many of them were carrying coffins of their children during an attack by Taliban gunmen on the Army Public School. Tragically, most of the victim students of the Army Public School received bullets in the head and they were targeted from a point blank range by the attackers. Almost 17 students received a bullet in their head at a close range. The others received the bullets mainly in the feet. The terrorists were 7 in total and were wearing FC uniform.

They killed 1 the school teacher in front of student’s eyes. 9 staff members were killed when Taliban gunmen broke into a school in the Pakistani city of Peshawar and opened indiscriminate firing immediately.

According to the victim students, they had exams running in the school. The students said that the attackers scaled the boundary wall from the adjacent graveyard and started firing randomly while moving towards the classrooms and auditorium. It has created a chaos in the school, children started screaming, yelling and crying over the wounds and a large number of students had gathered in the auditorium to get first aid training. The provincial information minister Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani said “most of the bodies were received in the Combined Military Hospital and around 30 at the Lady Reading Hospital. Of the injured students, 25 were in critical condition”.

The parents, who usually wait outside the school to pick their children at the closing time, were seen crying. They were frantically searching for their children in the LRH and CMH as they wanted to know about safety or condition of their kids after the attack.

The students were injured badly in their blood-stained school uniform. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, calling it revenge for a major military offensive in the region.

TTP spokesman Muhammad Khorasani said Tuesday’s assault was carried out to avenge Taliban fighters and their families killed in the army’s offensive against militant strongholds in North Waziristan mission “zarb-e-azb”.

The military has hailed the operation as a major success in disrupting the TTP’s insurgency. The Taliban’s has given 3 reasons for this attack 1. To demoralize the Army 2. Malala Yousafzai awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 3. Peshawar has become an ungovernable city. It is just a trailer, added by TTP spokesperson.

  • PM Pakistan Nawaz Sharif has gone to Peshawar. “I can’t stay back in Islamabad. This is a national tragedy unleashed by savages. These were my kids,” he said in a statement.
  • Chief Minister Pervez Khattak announced 3-day mourning in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The chief minister announced Rs 500,000 for the killed students and Rs 200, 000 for the injured.
  • Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq said on the occasion that it was the responsibility of the federal and provincial governments to provide security to the people. A government, which can’t provide security to its children has no right to rule, he said.
  • Ameer Haider Hoti (ANP) said that children of the nation were killed brutally. He called for united stand by the political parties against militancy.

  • Stephen Harper said “Canada stands w/ the people of Pakistan in the wake of this horrific act of violence against children whose only crime was going to school.
  • United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon said “It is an act of horror and rank cowardice to attack defenseless children while they learn. The hearts of the world go out to the parents and families who have lost loved ones. I condemn this heinous attack in the strongest possible terms,” he said.
  • General Raheel Sharif vows to go after ‘inhuman beasts and said “Let me reiterate they can’t in any way diminish the will of this great nation. The ghastly act of cowardice of killing innocents clearly indicates that the terrorists are not only enemies of Pakistan but also the enemies of humanity”

  • US President Bararck Obama said “By targeting students and teachers in this heinous attack, terrorists have once again shown their depravity. We stand with the people of Pakistan, and reiterate the commitment of the United States to support the government of Pakistan in its efforts to combat terrorism and extremism and to promote peace and stability in the region.”
  • US Secretary of State John Kerry said “Mothers and fathers send their kids to school to learn and to be safe and to dream and find opportunity, Instead today they are gone, wiped away by Taliban assassins who serve a dark and almost medieval vision, the opposite of everything that those mothers and fathers wanted for their children.”
  • Nobel peace laureate Malala Yousafzai said “I am heartbroken by this senseless and cold blooded act of terror in Peshawar that is unfolding before us. Innocent children in their school have no place in horror such as this. I condemn these atrocious and cowardly acts and stand united with the government and armed forces of Pakistan whose efforts so far to address this horrific event are commendable”.

  • PTI Chairman Imran Khan has said that there is no justification for this heinous crime. He added that the party is standing with all the families who lost their loved ones in the attack. He has decided to represent his party at the multi-party conference summoned by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Governor House Peshawar tomorrow.
  • DG ISPR Asim Bajwa said insurgents that have attacked school in Peshawar are neither Muslims nor Humans. He said such brutality has never witnessed before.

  • The DG ISPR, Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa while referring to the Peshawar school attack as a national tragedy, has said that today it is the ‘darkest day’ of our history.
  • Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter said in a statement “The hostage-taking and murder of children exceeds in its cruel cowardice all that Pakistan, stricken by years of terror and violence, has known before.”
  • Indian Prime Minister Narendar Modi telephoned Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif to express condolences on deadly attack on school in Peshawar.
