Majority of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of the National Assembly (MNAs) are urging party Chairman Imran Khan that their resignation from the assembly should only be followed with the dissolution of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, an inside source says.

PTI MNAs Link Resignations to Dissolution of KP Assembly

“The number of MNAs opposing resignation from the National Assembly is increasing and now most of the MNAs are against the move Imran Khan has made,” a PTI MNA from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa told Daily Times on Tuesday on condition of anonymity. PTI MNAs are scheduled to appear before NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in Islamabad on Wednesday to verify that they did not resign under duress. The resignations were submitted with the NA speaker’s office on August 22 after the party began sit-in against alleged rigging during last year’s general elections. [contentblock id=2 img=adsense.png]

Three MNAs, including Gulzar Khan and Nasir Khattak, refused to follow the leader’s call for quitting the National Assembly seats. “We have asked the party leader to also order the dissolution KP Assembly if he is not ready to change his mind about quitting the NA seats,” the MNA said. Imran Khan, he said, was unlikely to heed the MNAs’ condition linking their resignations to the dissolution of the KP Assembly.

“No-one likes the idea of leaving the National Assembly. By retaining our membership we have a chance to serve our voters and increase constituency votes. Why should we let this opportunity slip through our hands,” he argued.

“There is no other way out than to resign. But one thing is sure that this resignation is not a voluntary one. Most PTI MNAs find themselves stuck between a rock and the deep sea. It is a big gamble to prerfer the NA seat over the party leadership and that keeps worrying most of us too,” the MNA said. -dailytimes
