Rs165m rehab project for 8,750 families

KARACHI – Chairperson National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) Nafisa Shah has said that Rs165 million project is being jointly carried out by NCHD and Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme (BBS-YDP) for the rehabilitation of flood affected women in Sindh.
She said this, while addressing a press conference along with representatives of BBS-YDP and Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal at Chief Minister’s House, here on Monday.
Nafisa Shah briefing on the plans for rehabilitating flood affected women in Sindh said the project is aimed at to rehabilitate more than 8750 families. She said the selected women will be trained in tailoring and stitching at relief camps along their participation in the adult literacy program.
She said Rs 2500 stipend will be paid to each trainee during the training period and afterwards they are expected to earn Rs 800 to 1200 per day.
NCHD is a unique example of public private partnership working to improve education, health and income generating indicators of the country in the shortest possible time, she said. Chairman Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) Zamurrud Khan said Rs200 million have been earmarked for flood affected people of the country. He said 75000 food packages for babies are being distributed across the country, out of them 25000 packets are being distributed in Sindh by the NCHD.
He said 20,000 Sehr-o-Aftar packages are being distributed in Sindh including Shahdadpur, Shikarpur and Sukkur areas. He said 200 tankers of drinking water have been sent to the flood-hit areas.
The chairman said Langar system (free meal), as continued in other parts of the country, will be started in Thatta from Tuesday. He said 30 trucks with relief items were being sent to Thatta due to its worse conditions. He said Bait-ul-Mal has also announced 0.2 million ‘Eid packages’, each weighing 35-kg for flood affected people of Pakistan.
He said recent floods are the biggest natural calamities faced by Pakistan and the government is unable to handle the situation alone. He appealed citizens, philanthropists, civil society organizations and NGOs to come forward to help flood affectees – Nation
