The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially wrapped up the extensive electoral process, revealing the party standings in both national and provincial assemblies following the comprehensive vote count from Thursday’s polls. The elections spanned across 854 constituencies for both national and provincial seats, marking a significant chapter in Pakistan’s democratic journey.

In an interesting turn of events, a substantial number of independent candidates, totaling 348, have been declared successful. The majority of these independents are associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which faced a setback due to being stripped of its ‘bat’ electoral symbol amidst controversies surrounding its internal elections.

The preliminary results have positioned the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at the forefront of the political landscape, securing 227 seats and emerging as the predominant force. Trailing behind is the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which has claimed 160 seats, solidifying its significant presence. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) stands third in the tally with a count of 45 seats.

The distribution of seats in the National Assembly highlights the strong showing of independent candidates, who have won 101 seats. The PML-N leads the party count with 75 seats, followed by the PPP with 54, and the MQM-P holding 17 seats. Other notable parties include the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) with four seats, PML-Quaid with three, and both the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and the Balochistan National Party (BNP) securing two seats each, painting a diverse and multifaceted political spectrum in the aftermath of the elections.
