In a significant development within Pakistan’s cricket administration, Mohsin Naqvi, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, has been named the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee. This appointment comes unopposed and is set to last for the next three years, backed by the unanimous support of the board of governors during a meeting at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

The proposition for Naqvi’s role was made by the PCB’s Patron, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, who also nominated Mustafa Ramdey. This decision was made under the governance framework established by the PCB’s 2014 constitution, which ensures a varied representation on the board, including members from different regions and departments such as Azad Jammu Kashmir, Larkana, Dera Murad Jamali, Bahawalpur, and several corporate entities.

Although the secretary of inter-provincial coordination is part of the board of governors, they do not possess voting rights. The formal announcement of Naqvi’s appointment was made by Chief Election Commissioner Shah Khawar.

This leadership transition occurs in the wake of Ramiz Raja’s exit and follows a history of management committees steering the PCB, with notable figures like Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf previously at the helm. As Mohsin Naqvi steps into his new role, he is faced with pivotal challenges, including the enhancement of the Pakistan Super League and strengthening the national cricket team’s performance.
