COAS Confirms Death Sentences Awarded to 14 Hardcore Terrorists

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday confirmed death sentences awarded to 14 hardcore terrorists involved in heinous offences related to terrorism. According to a statement released by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists were involved in attacking armed forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan, killing innocent civilians and were behind destruction of educational institutions and Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Hotel Malam Jabba.

The military’s media wing said that they were involved in killing of 22 persons including three civilians, 19 armed forces and police personnel and injuring 23 others. “Arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession. These convicts were tried by special military courts. Besides the death penalty, eight convicts have also been awarded imprisonment,” reads the statement issued by ISPR.

Detail of each case is as under:-

1. Rehman Ali s/o Hassan Ghani, Rehmat Ali s/o Sher Malik, Saif ur Rehman s/o Akbar Aman and Fazal Mabood s/o Fazal Rabi.

All the convicts were members of proscribed organization. They were involved in destruction of an educational institution and attacking armed forces/law enforcement agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Naib Subedar Muhammad Hanif alongwith 7 soldiers, a civilian and injuries to 12 others.

They were also found in possession of fire-arms and explosives. These convicts confessed their offences before the Magistrate and the trial court. They were awarded death sentence.

2. Irshad Ahmed s/o Mumtaz

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Sepoy Raza Khan. He was also involved in destruction of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Hotel Malam Jabba, Swat. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

3. Afreen s/o Naseem.

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Armed Forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of 5 soldiers and injuries to 7 others. He was also found in possession of fire-arms and explosives. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

4. Ahmad Hussain s/o Qari Muhammad Zarif.

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Naib Subedar Hussain Faraz alongwith 4 officials and injuries to 5 others. He was also found in possession of fire-arms. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

5. Bacha Rehman s/o Masoom Jan

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Armed Forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Havildar Muhammad Ilyas alongwith 4 soldiers and injuries to 6 others. He was also found in possession of fire-arms and explosives. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

6. Muhammad Majeed Khan s/o Sanoubar

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in killing of innocent civilians and attacking Armed Forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Sepoy Asif Mehmood and injuries to an officer alongwith 2 soldiers. He was also involved in destruction of Government Primary School Zangi, Swat and Pakistan Telecommunication Limited Exchange Tower. Moreover, he was found in possession of explosives as well. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

7. Muhammad Aqil s/o Nawab Ali

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Assistant Sub Inspector Noor Zaman alongwith 4 officials and injuries to 5 others. He was also found in possession of fire-arms. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

8. Saif Ullah s/o Muhammad Rafique

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in destruction of Government Primary School Langar (Swat) and attacking Armed Forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Naik Ghulam Hassan, Sepoy Shoukat Ali and injuries to 2 other soldiers. He was also found in possession of fire-arms and explosives. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

9. Muhammad Sher Ali Khan s/o Sher Afzal Khan

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Law Enforcement Agencies of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Sepoy Raza Khan. The convict confessed his offences before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

10. Muhammad Tariq s/o Ghulam Badshah

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Armed Forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Naik Muhammad Suleman and injuries to another soldier. The convict confessed his offence before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.

11. Ali Rehman s/o Fazal Wahid

The convict was a member of proscribed organization. He was involved in attacking Armed Forces of Pakistan, which resulted in death of Sepoy Shoukat Ali and injuries to another soldier. The convict confessed his offence before the Judicial Magistrate and the trial court. He was awarded death sentence.
