KARACHI: Fatima Bhutto, the granddaughter of late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, took to Twitter to announce the publication of her latest work of fiction, titled Democracy.

The surprise announcement has caused a stir on the social media platform, with Bhutto’s Twitter followers speculating on the book’s content. Bhutto has so far relied solely on social media to promote Democracy. Also on Friday, she used the photo-sharing application Instagram to confirm that the novel will be released as an e-book.

Bhutto’s previous work includes the novel The Shadow of the Crescent Moon, which follows a Pakistani family torn apart by the War on Terror, and the memoir Songs of Blood and Sword, a chronicle of her own own family’s tumultuous history. She has also published a collection of poems.

Bhutto earned a spot on the long list for the Women’s Prize for Fiction, formerly the Orange Prize, in 2014. She has been a vociferous critic of her aunt, Benazir Bhutto, and has publicly declared that she has no desire to enter Pakistan’s political sphere.
