A delegation of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) met on Wednesday with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House to discuss the ongoing political deadlock. The delegation comprised of senior MQM members, led by Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, while MQM’s parliamentary leader in the National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar , Haider Abbas Rizvi and Babar Ghouri were also present.
The premier was flanked by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Federal Information Minister Pervez Rashid. During the meeting, the ongoing political crisis was the main topic of discussion. The MQM delegation brought forth a set of suggestions formulated by party chief Altaf Hussain at the meeting to overcome the current political deadlock.
The recommendations, also addressing the option of resilience for the demands of the protesters in D-chowk, were presented to the prime minister. MQM leaders have recently been in contact with leadership of major political parties including Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Pakistan Peoples Party etc. Earlier, MQM’s Sattar had said that the MQM was ready to play the role of a facilitator and would make every effort to save the ‘democratic system’ from getting derailed. -dawn
