President Mamnoon Hussain would deliver his first presidential address to the Parliament today (Monday), kick starting the start of second parliamentary year of the current National Assembly. The president will address joint session of the National Assembly (NA) and Senate at 11.am at the Parliament House.
The address of the President is constitutional requirement. The National Assembly Secretariat has completed the arrangements of the session. Special entry passes have been issued, officials said. Special invitations have already been sent to the guests including Chairman, Deputy Chairman Senate, Speakers, Governors, Chief Ministers, President, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, three Services Chiefs, high ranking officials, and foreign ambassadors.
President Mamnoon Hussain is likely to highlight the achievements of the government and issue future guidelines as per past tradition. According to constitutional provisions, the President has to address a joint session of Parliament at the beginning of the first session of the National Assembly after a general election or at the start of every parliamentary year. Former President Asif Ali Zardari had created history by addressing six consecutive times to the joint sitting of Parliament. – SAMAA
