Gunship helicopters and fighter jets on Friday pounded suspected militant hideouts, killing four and injuring several in the North Waziristan tribal area.
During the action, suspected insurgent sanctuaries were targeted in the tribal region’s Miramshah, Machis Camp and Mir Ali bazaar areas. Sources said four suspected militants were killed in today’s action. Since Wednesday, at least 73 suspected local and foreign militants have been killed in a series of air strikes on hideouts and bases in North Waziristan and in a later clash following an attack on security personnel.
An army major and three other security personnel also died in that clash. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had said in a statement that the air attacks of Wednesday were in retaliation for the killing of “a large number of civilians and security forces personnel” by terrorists in Fata, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Karachi. –dawn
