ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday accorded approval to the amendments in Shariah Nizam-e-Adl Regulation that binds police to submit complete challan within 14 days, else face disciplinary proceedings.

According to a statement from the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the President on advice of Prime Minister accorded the approval in Shariah Nizam-e-Adl Regulation 2009 and draft Shariah Nizam-e-Adl (Amendment) Regulation 2013, in terms of Article 247(4) of the Constitution of the Pakistan. The amendment in Shariah Nizam-e-Adl Regulation 2009 aims at streamlining and expediting the submission of complete challans by the police to the court.

The amendment binds the police to submit complete challan through the public prosecutor within 14 days. If the police fails to do so and the magistrate has not granted any special extension in the 14 days limit disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against the police officer. – APP
