ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on the advice of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has constituted National Economic Council (NEC) in terms of Article 156(1) of the Constitution.
Article 156(1) of the Constitution states that the NEC shall be constituted by the President comprising the Prime Minister as the chairman of the Council, the Chief Ministers and one member from each province, to be nominated by the Chief Minister, and four other members as the Prime Minister may nominate from time to time. Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the composition of the NEC would be; The Prime Minister and Members nominated by the Prime Minister: Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi and Khwaja Mohammad Asif.
From Provinces; Chief Minister Punjab, Minister for Finance, Government of the Punjab, Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Finance, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Siraj-ul-Haq, Senior Minister for Finance, KPK, Chief Minister Balochistan, Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, MPA, Balochistan.The summary said that the Governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,Prime Minister, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Chief Minister, Gilgit-Baltistan, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Secretary Finance Division, Secretary Economic Affairs Division and Secretary Planning & Development Division would also be invited by special invitation to attend the meetings of NEC. – APP
