KARACHI: In a relentless killing spree, another four people lost their lives while the director general of Karachi Mass Transit System (KMTS) survived the life attempton Monday.
The DG KMTS, Munawar Imam, 55, was wounded when unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on his official car near Awami Chowrangi signal along Shara-e-Quaideen and later the rode away.Following the incident, police rushed to the spot and shifted the victim at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center and later he was shifted to Aga Khan University Hospital. Police officials said that the incident took place when the victim was on his way to home in North Karachi area from Civic Centre. Culprits shot fire in his leg and condition was stated to be out of danger. DSP Rana Shoaib said the motive behind incident was yet to be ascertained.
Separately, a volunteer of Pak Hyderi scout was shot dead apparently in a sectarian attack near Nishan-e-Haider Chowk in Orangi Town.Police officials said Haider Abbas Naqvi, 26 was sitting near his home, when two armed men riding a bike waylaid him and opened indiscriminate fire. Resultantly he sustained multiple bullets and died on the spot. While a passerby, Jumma Khan, was also wounded in the attack. Deceased and the injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for autopsy and medical treatment. The funeral prayers of Naqvi were offered at Imambargah in Ancholi locality.
In another incident, a former seminary student, Waqas, was shot dead and his companion, Ovais, was wounded in an attack in Lines area.Police said the victims after offering Asr prayers at the Thanvi Masjid located in Lines area were standing outside the mosque, when two armed opened fire on them and fled. Police suspected sectarian motive behind the attack.Meanwhile, a former employee of Pakistan Air Force was shot dead outside his residence in F.C Area within the limits of Sharifabad police station.
Police said that deceased was identified as Azam Ramzan, 65. They said the incident took place when the victim had arrived in the area after taking cash of Rs 32000 from Boulton Market. The culprits also took along the money after attack. Police said it seemed to be the mugging incident, while further investigation was underway.A shopkeeper, named Ali Murad was shot dead by armed men inside his mobile shop in Baldia Town locality. Police officials said that victim was sitting at his shop when armed motorcyclists shot him to death. – DailyTimes
