QUETTA: Balochistan Interim Chief Minister Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Barozai has said there would be no room for rigging in the upcoming elections in presence of the independent judiciary, election commission and vibrant media.
“No one should doubt fairness and transparency of elections on May 11, as we have independent judiciary, Election Commission of Pakistan and vibrant media.”Addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected body of Quetta Press Club here Sunday, Barozai said journalists’ community has played an important role in the society. He said that journalists were subjected to atrocities at times but they fulfilled their duties with sense of responsibility.
He said that the Balochistan situation demands extra security measures during the elections on May 11. He said that journalists should remain impartial and careful while airing or publishing any news as the society takes greater influence from what they show or write.
He said that free, fair and transparent elections were going to take place in the province. However, he said, some of the segments are not ready to believe transparency of the elections, adding that it is because of the trust deficit among various circles of the society. He said that the government would provide a levelled playing field to all the political parties. He said that the masses are the final decision makers in this regard. – TheNation
