ISLAMABAD: Several MPs are possessing dual nationality despite submission of affidavits.Former ambassador Asif Aizdi had submitted a reference to the Election Commission of Pakistan that 22 members of Punjab Assembly were dual nationals.
The ECP admitted the reference for hearing and issued notices to these 22 MPAs to appear on February 7.The members summoned on Thursday include, Zaeem Qadri, Tariq Mehmood, Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti, Ghulam Sarwar, Rana Babar Hussain, Dr Farukh Javed, Syed Raza Ali Gilani, Pir Kashif Ali Chishti, Tahir Khaleel Sandhu, Makhdoom Muhammad Irtaza, Arifa Khalid Pervez, Faiza Ahmad Malik, Imran Khalid Butt, Shahjahan Ahmad Bhatti, Ali Haider Noor Khan, Hafiz Mian Nauman, Mohsin Latif, Malik Sahsher Haider, Imran Ashraf and Muhammad Yar Haraj.
Two members Jameel Ashraf and Tahir Ali Javed have already resigned due to possessing dual nationality but notices were also issued to them.These 22 members would have to prove that they hold only Pakistan’s nationality otherwise they may face disqualification.Meanwhile, the Election Commission has called a two-day meeting from Wednesday regarding preparation of upcoming general elections.Moreover, the Election Commission has invited the representatives of parties that participated in sit-in to address their reservations on Thursday. – DunyaNews
