LAHORE:  Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday said the PML-N was sure to achieve a thumping victory in the upcoming general polls.

He said the Punjab government undertook revolutionary steps for the welfare of the people, as a result of which popularity of his party had increased manifold.Talking to media representatives on his arrival in Britain, after concluding his visit to Turkey, the chief minister Shahbaz said in the face of worse kind of opposition by the federal government, the Punjab government selflessly served the people.

With reference to the PTI, Shahbaz said the so-called Tsunami of this party had been buried under its own meaningless noise. He said the people had become antagonistic towards federal rulers owing to their incompetence and corruption.He stressed that the federal government had lost its trust and mandate among the people due to its loot and plunder. He warned that the people would undertake strong accountability of the thieves and the looters during the upcoming elections.

Terming his Turkey visit successful, he said many agreements relating to transport and other development sectors had been signed with Turkish companies and government, while his meetings with Turkish President Abdullah Gull, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Mayor Istanbul Kadir Topbas had been fruitful.The chief minister said during his visit to Britain, he would call on the British Foreign Secretary and other British authorities along with extending invitation to the UK investors to invest in Punjab.

Also, Shahbaz visited King Solomon Academy at Westminster London, on Monday. The chief minister was given detailed briefing by the King Solomon Academy on the occasion and was informed about the facilities being provided to the children. The chief minister visited the campus of the King Solomon Academy and reviewed the facilities being extended in different sectors.

Shahbaz offered cooperation of Punjab Schools Education Department for initiation of new academic projects by the King Solomon Academy Council in Punjab. He said the academy was running its programmes in South Africa, India and Eastern Europe, along with Britain and on similar pattern academic programmes should be initiated in Punjab as well.

Shahbaz appreciated the modern facilities being extended to the children by the Academy and said steps taken by the academy to provide education to the children, their health and safety were praiseworthy. The King Solomon Academy Council expressed its willingness to work with the Punjab government under public-private partnership.Meanwhile, Shahbaz met with British Minister for International Development Alan Duncan in London and gave final shape to the proposals for promoting bilateral cooperation in various sectors in Punjab. Director of Department for International Development (DFID) was also present on the occasion.

The chief minister lauded the cooperation of the DFID in various sectors in Punjab and said the grant provided for the promotion of government policies in education sector in Punjab province was yielding encouraging results. He said the Punjab government was enhancing Rs 2 billion in the endowment fund every year to help provide educational facilities to the children facing financial constraints.

Minister for International Development Alan Duncan welcomed the chief minister on behalf of the British government and it was agreed to promote bilateral cooperation for the development of various sectors in Punjab. He said the British Department would continue its assistance for the uplift of education sector in Punjab. – Nation
