ISLAMABAD: Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday said he had shared seven names with the opposition parties for evolving a consensus for the caretaker prime minister.

Talking to media outside the Parliament House, Nisar did not share the names of his nominees; however, he said he had proposed the names of two former judges, one lawyers’ leader and four politicians. He said the short-listed names were sent to the political parties so that they could look into it and send the list back in order of priority. He further said only seven names were being sent right now after the PTI’s backtracking. To a question, Nisar said Attaullah Mengal was also in the list, adding that two of the suggested names were former Supreme Court judges while the remaining three were politically-affiliated people.

The PML-N leader said he had spoken to the leaders of various political parties including Aftab Sherpao, Munawar Hassan and Saleem Saifullah, adding that He said only consensus names would be considered to fill the slot.Agencies add: Nisar said two of these seven names would be sent to the government after completion of consultation with other opposition parties. He said the aim of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would be to ensure free and impartial elections in the county through the caretaker setup.

“We neither want to bring a caretaker setup according to our will nor we want to select our chosen personality and an impartial person should be selected for the caretaker prime minister,” Nisar said. The PML-N leader added that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) had sent two names, Shoaib Suddle and Razzaq Dawood, for the purpose. In a clear reference to the PTI, The opposition leader said the people, who talked about bringing a change in the country, should avoid backtracking from their statements.

Nisar said the PML-N had consulted and discussed with the leadership of opposition parties the formation of caretaker setup and all of them had given positive response, except PTI chief Imran Khan.Meanwhile, the PTI vehemently denied the claim made by Nisar and said no contact had been made with the party regarding the names for the caretaker prime minister and it did suggest any name for the purpose.

In a press statement, PTI Secretary Information Shafqat Mahmood said it WAS sad that someone as responsible as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly was fabricating statements. No one approached the PTI and no names were suggested for the prime minister in the caretaker government, Shafqat reiterated.“If and when the party is consulted, and it should be, the party would discuss the matter thoroughly and then suggest some names,” he added.PML-N suggests seven names for caretaker PM. – Nation
