KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday said that the builders must be facilitated by removing bureaucratic hurdles and simplifying procedures for securing required permissions for high-rise buildings.

He was chairing a meeting here at Bilawal House on construction of high-rise buildings in Karachi and reviewed the progress made so far on the decisions taken during earlier meetings in this regard.President Zardari stressed the need for vertical expansion of the cities and called upon all the stakeholders to work together to reach a consensus decision to encourage construction of high-rise buildings. He also inquired about the progress of the committee that was formed to give recommendations for grant of permission to construct high-rise buildings and the drafting of appropriate legislation and regulations.

Director General Sindh Building Control Authority Manzoor Qadir while briefing the meeting said that in view of fast-growing population of the metropolis and various departments controlling land use in Karachi, there was a need to adopt a unified building bye-laws in the entire city. – APP
