KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has said that it seems that the law-enforcement agencies could not step up their presence in the past two days, as prior to that the security situation was under control.

Presiding over a high level meeting on law and order situation of the City, he said that on political side, the government is taking appropriate measures to resolve conflicts and issues based on sectarian, political, ethnic and other levels. The meeting was held at the CM Secretariat, which reviewed the efforts of the LEAs against the criminals and recent spree of targeted killings. The CM maintained that people from different walks of life are helping and assisting the government including traders, businessmen politicians, and others in it endeavour to fully maintain the law and order.

The meeting was attended among others by Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas, Sindh Home Secretary Muhammad Younis Dhaga, Sindh Rangers Director General Maj General Rizwan Akhtar, Sindh IG Police Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari, Additional IG Police Karachi Iqbal Mehmood, Commander ISI, Commander M-I, Joint Director IB, Additional IG CID, Additional IG Special Branch, DIG’s of Police East, West and South, and Deputy Commissioners (all) of Karachi.  Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister directed the security agencies of fully concerted efforts for prompt measures against criminals and target killers.

He said that after end of of Ramazan; the criminals have again geared up their efforts to spread anarchy in the City but the police, rangers and other law-enforcement agencies have to take coordinated efforts and action against those anti-state and anti-people elements.Qaim hoped that the activities of police, rangers and other law-enforcement agencies would be immediately enhanced. He informed that there are certain laws which can only be amended through Parliament, which in case Sindh Assembly adopts or pass any law, the same are to be followed.

It has been observed that due to improper investigation and lack of effective evidences, the hardened criminals are even released by the courts. Qaim also directed the police officers to arrest the drug peddlers, and land grabbers, and necessary action be taken against the law violators. He directed that one of the reasons of lawlessness is the scuffle between land grabbers and drug peddlers.  He appreciated the working and performance of Sindh Police and Rangers, and hoped that the LEAs will soon overcome the criminals, target killers, extortionists, parchi mafia, drug peddlers, land grabbers and other anti-state and anti-people elements, with planned action. He said that he was fully confident that the police and Rangers will come upto the expectations of the government and the people.

Qaim also directed the police and Rangers to do patrolling on Super and National highways so as to provide security against road robberies to up-country passengers plying in buses and coming from up-country. He also directed the LEAs to monitor and check the passengers coming from up-country to Karachi for jobs, while such checking and monitoring be also ensured in the City so as to detect criminals and drug peddlers.Earlier, IG Police Sindh and DG Rangers presented their detailed report of activities and performance for the last two months of July and August, 2012.
