ISLAMABAD – Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Nadeem Afzal Chan on Friday warned that a reference would be sent against the Supreme Court’s registrar in parliament if he failed to appear before the committee.
Talking to reporters outside the Parliament House, Chan recalled that Justice Khalilur Rehman had ruled in Para 93 of the PLD 2010 that not everyone was a judge and that registrar was an assistant and helper.
“Judges’ conduct cannot be debated,” he admitted, but added that financial matters of the Supreme Court could come under discussion. If a president and prime minister could face financial accountability, the Supreme Court’s registrar was not above the law, he added. Chan said he had also sought the Law Ministry’s opinion in this regard. – PT
