KARACHI: Vice Chairman Sindh Bar Council (SBC) Ghulam Mohammad Abbasi and President Karachi Bar Association Mahmood-ul-Hassan have announced a complete strike in the provincial courts for Thursday (today) against the Contempt of Court (Amended) Bill.

In a joint press conference held at the SBC Committee Room here on Wednesday, Abbasi said that the bill was an attack on the freedom of judiciary besides being condemnable by all means. He said that the lawyers’ community would observe a complete strike in the Sindh High Courts of Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana and Sukkur as well as the lower courts of the province. “The lawyers will not appear in any case proceedings on Thursday,” he said. “A constitutional petition prepared for challenging the bill as well as the Dual Nationality Bill will also be filed within this week,” Abbasi added. He said both bills were against the constitution and tabled for providing protection to the elite class and corrupt rulers. -Dailytimes
