PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti on Wednesday said that the KP had taken lead over other federating units in taking solid measures to curtail the energy crisis.
Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony of the 84 Megawatt hydel power project at Mataltan in Kalam valley of Swat district, the Chief Minister said under the Hydropower Generation Plan, the government would develop 24 medium size hydel projects having total capacity of 2100 MW in five to seven years. The completion of these projects would certainly give a sigh of relief to the people from the load-shedding. He told the gathering that the royalty of the power generating districts had been doubled from 5 to 10 percent. The Mataltan hydropower project would provide Rs.260 million to the local populace as royalty at the rate of 10 percent whereas the provincial government would generate revenue up to Rs.2.61 billion from this project.
The Chief Minister said 250 local people would be given job facilities in the said project. Moreover he said that Rs.100 million royalty would be given from the construction of Dral Khwar hydel project. A tourism point would be established in scenic valley Kalam for the promotion of tourism besides constructing modern school and a hospital. Uplift project worth billions of rupees are being constructed in Swat district which included water supply schemes, Fatehpur Road, Mahudhand road, Bagh Dherai-Madyan and Kanju-Madyan roads. On this occasion he also announced Rs.120 million development package for PK-85 constituency in Swat district.
He said that his government was taking serious measures for resolving core problems of the people, adding construction of Swat included in their priority list as its people rendered matchless sacrikfices for the cause of peace. Senior KPK Ministers Bashir Ahmed Bilour, Rahimdad Khan, Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, President ANP Swat District and MPA Sher Shah Khan, Project Director Irfan, Commissioner Malakand Fakhr e Alam, DIG and DCO Swat attended the function. -Brecorder
