LAHORE: Despite strong criticism from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its coalition partners, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif refuses to step back from leading power protests against the federal government.

On Sunday, the CM led another protest rally against load shedding at Thokar Niaz Baig.Addressing the protesters, the emotionally charged CM said that on one hand terrorism had been playing havoc with the national economy and now load shedding was proving to be another form of terrorism for the province. Shahbaz was accompanied by MNA Afzal Khokhar and MPA Saiful Malook Khokhar.

He said that traders, businessmen and masses, all had been deprived of electricity and the province’s economy was breathing its last due to discrimination on the issue of the power distribution.Among chants of ‘Go Zardari Go’, Shahbaz said, “Pakistan could not be saved until Ali Baba and forty thieves are not dethroned and kicked out of the country.”

He said that the load shedding menace could not be overcome until and unless looted money was brought back to Pakistan. He said that Punjab was being meted out “step-motherly treatment”. The daily, excessive load shedding had destroyed the industries and agriculture. Calling the ruling party a “clique of hypocrites”, Shahbaz said it had turned lives of the people into a “living hell”.At the end of his addresses, the CM rose and chanted slogans of “Long live Nawaz Sharif; live long Muslim League (N)” and “Long Live Pakistan”. – Dailytimes
