KARACHI: The speakers at the Sindh Solidarity Conference here on Wednesday held Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) responsible for the killing of ‘Love Sindh Rally’ participants.
The conference was attended by the representatives of Sindh United Party, National People’s Party (NPP), Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Jeay Sindh Mahaz-Riaz Chandio, JSQM-Arisar, Awami Tahreek, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Muslim League-Likeminded, Balochistan National Party, Pakistan Workers Party, Karachi City Alliance (KCA) and PPP-Shaheed Bhutto. A fourteen-point resolution was unanimously passed in the conference stating that the brutal attack carried out on peaceful ‘Love Sindh Rally’ on May 22 was orchestrated by ruling coalition partners, MQM, and PPP. It demanded that all those responsible should be apprehended immediately and tried before the Anti Terrorism Court. The participants pointed out that the abduction cases had reached an alarming proportion and several workers of Sindhi nationalist parties, including Secretary General Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz Muzzafar Bhutto, had been murdered after being kidnapped. They demanded an impartial investigation into Bhutto’s abduction and murder, besides accusing the government of assassinating Bhutto and all missing persons who disappeared from Sindh.
The resolution demanded that it was inevitable that MQM’s terrorist wing be banned, its offices seized and all accounts frozen within and outside the country. “Creating a new province is a constituent power which resides in the provinces and constituent assembly declined to confer this power on Parliament in 1973. Even no amendment in the constitution could be brought about affecting the federal or parliamentary character of the state. It has been declared by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in numerous cases,” said the resolution. Addressing the conference, well-known scholar Muhammad Ibrahim Joyo said that all Pakistani citizens, especially the people of Sindh, knew from day first that the MQM was still a party that did not change its policies by changing the name. He said “The May 22 incident of firing at ‘Love Sindh Rally’ was a shocking incident for the entire Sindh. NPP chief Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi strongly condemned all conspiracies being hatched against the unity of Sindh. He said, “I believe that the people of country have been misled by the ruling coalition on the issue of creation of provinces as the ruling parties have miserably failed to deliver to the people during these four-and-a-half years. In order to divert the attention of people from their misrule, maladministration, corruption and terrorism, they have chosen igniting people’s emotions and have thus played with fire against the integrity, unity and solidarity of Sindh and the country.”
President PML-N Sindh Ghous Ali Shah said that Sindh was an independent state for centuries and will survive on its historic status. He said, “PML-N will not support any move against the sovereignty of Sindh.” “The issue of Muhajir province has been raised for damaging the sovereignty of Pakistan”, said Shah. He said that the MQM did not represent the entire Urdu speaking community but majority of Urdu speaking community were brotherly with Sindhis”. He added, all the sons of soil who settled in Sindh including Punjabis, Pukhtoons, Balochs and Siraikis would not support the Muhajir province demand. JSQM Acting Chairman Dr Niaz Kalani said that Pakistan did not come into being as a result of independence movement. He quoted Sir Feroz Khan Noon as saying that Pakistan did not come into being as a result of any struggle, rather it was a gift given by the British government to Punjab for being its ally in World War II.” He further said the establishment had designed a conspiracy against the integrity of Sindh and its people just after the success of peaceful ‘freedom march’ organised by JSQM. ANP Sindh chief Senator Shahi Syed said, “Pukhtoons will never support any demand that will hurt people of Sindh or harm the province’s integrity.” “We believe in the philosophy of Bacha Khan and GM Syed while Sindh is our motherland like Pukhtoonkhwa”, said Shahi Syed. Barrister Zamir Ghumro, JUI Sindh Chief Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro also spoke on the occasion.-Dailytimes
