ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Wednesday said governments come and go and we have to save the country, if the Prime Minister does not perform his duties then constitution will work and emergency can be enforced in the case pertaining to the law and order situation in Balochistan and the missing persons issue in the province.
A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the proceedings of missing persons of Balochistan case at Supreme Court Quetta Registry.Defence Secretary Nargis Sethi, Principal Secretary of the PM Khushnood Lashari and other high authorities appeared before the court.During the proceedings, the Chief Justice told Khushnood Lashari that Balochistan situation is very serious, nothing is being done according to the constitution and people are pointing their fingers at law enforcement agencies like Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Military
Intelligence (MI) and Frontier Corps (FC) for missing persons and extra judicial killings. He added that the province is experiencing the menace of target killing due to the religious ethnicity, scholars are being killed, development is equal to zero while a Provincial Minister has said that ministers are involved in Balochistan unrest.Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry expressed annoyance over the lack of interest of rulers for Balochistan and said if government does not work even then courts would continue performing its duties. He added that rulers are doing rest in Islamabad while various areas of the province have become no go areas and the Deputy Attorney General is not ready to write a single line to the Federal Government over the situation.
The Chief Justice questioned that the Provincial Interior Minister was summoned to appear before the court, why he has not come?The Provincial Interior Secretary replied that he has tried to contact the Minister throughout the night but could not make contact with the Minister.Then the Chief Justice said there are serious allegations against the Provincial Interior Minister regarding missing persons case.
The Provincial Interior Secretary told the SC that the Provincial Interior Minister has been informed about the allegations, and then the Chief Justice ordered to bring the Provincial Interior Minister to Islamabad after registering a case against him.The Chief Justice remarked that they have to save the country and if the time slips then the Pakistan would face crucial situation.
Upon which, the Principal Secretary of the PM told the SC that the government has started ‘Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan’ package, then the Chief Justice said to him to go and witness the situation of the province. He said that house is repaired after overcoming the fire, the Deputy Attorney General is showing unserious behavior of the Federal Government by resigning and on the other side, National Anthem is not allowed in various areas of Balochistan.
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain said to the Advocate General, “ how can we resolve the issue of Balochistan as it is a burning issue of the country, people are pointing their fingers towards those institutions which are sacrificing on the other end”. He said they are putting their due share of water on the fire that is erupting in Balochistan. – Onlinenews
