ISLAMABAD: The government dropped another bomb on price-stricken masses by increasing power tariff Rs1.25 per unit (16pc) under schedule-II where as lifeline consumers have been excluded from this increase.
The Water and Power Ministry has also issued a notification in this regard here on Wednesday. According to the notification, the increase will be applicable across the country and the hike will be applicable with immediate effect.“The government will get Rs7.8 billion in additional revenue in the month of June from this raise,” an official of the ministry of Water and Power said, adding that with the current hike in power tariff, the government will get Rs90 billion revenue per year.
“The current price hike will help reduce the inter-differential tariff subsidy from Rs300 billion to Rs210 billion,” said the official, adding that existing notified tariff stands at Rs7.30 per unit and after this increase of Rs1.25 per unit, will take the power prices to Rs 8.55 per unit. – Onlinenews
