Islamabad: After the conviction of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, two separate meetings of coalition partners and senior leadership of PPP were held at the Aiwan-e-Sadar on Thursday to consider the aftermath of the Supreme Court verdict against the prime minister.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani presided over both the meetings, which expressed dismay that no dictator in the past had been punished for abrogation of the Constitution but an elected Prime Minister has been sentenced for upholding the constitution and supremacy of the parliament.
The Secretary General of PPP, Senator Jahangir Badar, federal ministers, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Rana Farooq Saeed Khan, Chaudhary Ahmed Mukhtar, Qamar Zaman Kaira. Rehman Malik, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Senator Farooq H. Naek, Syed Khurshid Shah, Makhdoom Shahab-ud-Din, Syed Naveed Qamar and senior leaders of the party including enator Faisal Raza Abidi, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, Rukhsana Bangash, Fouzia Wahab, Mehreen Anwar Raja, Fouzia Habib and Senator Farhat Ullah Babar attended the first meeting.
Aitzaz Ahsan briefed the meeting on the short order of the Supreme Court against the Prime Minister. After discussing the short order, the meeting expressed concern over numerous attempts to dismiss an elected government and an elected Prime Minister.The participants of the meeting expressed complete solidarity with the Prime Minister and declared that he is the elected Prime Minister of the country and can be removed only in accordance with the procedure laid down in the Constitution.The meeting said that it would not be deterred from continuing its struggle for upholding the constitution, the parliament and the rule of law.
After careful deliberations the meeting decided to give a robust considered and appropriate response to the new challenges with great political maturity and wisdom on the one hand and firmness on the other and employing all democratic and constitutional means available.The meeting asked Barrister Aitzaz and his team to study the detailed order of the court.Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi, Senator Afrasiab Khattak, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Babar Ghouri, Senator Mir Israr Ullah Zehri, Haji Khuda Baksh Rajar, Munir Khan Orakzai, Senator Abbas Khan Afridi, Syed Khurshid Shah, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Syed Naveed Qamar and Senator Farhat Ullah Babar attended the second meeting of the coalition partners.
The meeting of the coalition partners congratulated the Prime Minister over his stance in defending the Constitution and expressed complete solidarity with and support to the Prime Minister.The President thanked the coalition partners for their support to strengthen the political system and standing behind the Prime Minister.
