KARACHI: Sindh Police on Thursday claimed to have foiled a terrorism bid in city and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.

The crime branch and south zone police claimed to have arrested four Lyari gangsters, including most wanted hooligan, while law enforcement agencies (LEAs) arrested 22 suspects in separate raids at different parts of the metropolis.Mochko police claimed to have seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from a vacant house located in Ittehad Colony. DSP Baldia Abdul Haq Bhutto said that the police on an information raided a vacant house located in Ittehad Colony and recovered a huge quantity of weapons, including two rocket launchers, an anti-aircraft gun, 14 hand grenades, 100 short distance mortars and dozens of rounds of different calibers.

Moreover, he said although no arrest was made during the said raid, the Sindh Police have foiled a terrorism bid in the city. He further said that the police had seized the said smuggled weapons before being dispatched to the terrorists.Following the said recovery, high-ups from different law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot and inspected the weapons. Later, the case was registered against unknown culprits on the complaint of state. Further investigation was underway to nab the persons involved in this business.Meanwhile, Crime Branch I police claimed to arrest notorious Lyari gangster from Bulbul Hazar Dastan Building in old city area.

SSP Crime Branch Farooq Awan said a police party conducted a raid on a tip-off at Bulbul Hazar Dastan Building situated at Old City area in the precincts of Napier police station and arrested a gangster, namely Mullah Nawaz who associated from Baba Ladla Group.SSP said the accused was on the list of most wanted criminals and Sindh government had also placed Rs 0.5 million as reward money, adding that he was wanted to the city police in over 50 cases of crime, including murder, extortions, police encounter, drug peddling and etc.The officer said during initial investigation he confessed that he was also involved in the murder of notorious Lyari gangster Majeed Speed in few years back. Further investigation was in progress.

Separately, Special Investigation Team (SIT) South, headed by SP Khurram Waris, conducted a raid at Shoaib Autos, located in Baghdadi area and arrested three notorious gangsters, including a cop and a son of policeman with weapons. They said the detained persons were identified as Kamran alias Kami, Shahbaz, son of Shahab and Adnan.ASI Imran Gujjar said accused Kamran was a policeman and deployed in Saeedabad Training Centre while the accused Shahbaz was the son of policeman. He said the detained persons during initial course of investigation admitted to have committed several heinous crimes including murders, robberies, kidnappings, extortions and others.

Moreover, ASI Imran said these persons were associated with the gangster Shiraz Merat, who also worked for Baba Ladla, a notorious Lyari gangster.The police and Rangers on a tip-off conducted raids at Godhra Colony and Umer Marvi Goth located in New Karachi Industrial area and took some 22 suspects with weapons into custody. They said the suspects, who mostly belonged to political and religious groups, were identified as Naveed Bengali, Shaukat Farooqui, Fahim Qadri, Javed Siraiki, Junaid Bengali, Nadeem alias Maghaz, Kamil alias Kala, Mehboob alias Sirphira, Wajid alias Warsi, Yaqoob, Zafar, Asad, Imran, Kamran, Shareef, Nafees, Hussain, Nadeem and others.

They said a heavy contingent of police and Rangers cordoned off the aforesaid areas and detained these suspects during door-to-door search and recovered weapons from them. The detained suspects were later moved to unknown place for further interrogation. They said the targeted operation, which was kicked off on a tip-off, was continued for more than three hours. – Dailytimes
