Islamabad: Attorney General Pakistan Maulvi Anwarul Haq on Wednesday submitted documentary evidences against Yousuf Raza Gilani to the Supreme Court of Pakistan which has adjourned the hearing of contempt case against the Prime Minister till February 28.
A seven-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk was hearing the contempt of court case against the Prime Minister.The Attorney General gave the court details of prosecution’s witnesses after he submitted the copies of judicial verdicts as documents.Prime Minister Gilani’s counsel Aitezaz Ahsan said he takes exception to further evidences.
The AG said he has given prosecution documents to the PM Gilani’s counsel. The court accepted documents submitted on February 16 as evidence of the prosecution.During the hearing, Shahid Orazkzai filed an application stating that the Attorney General could not be appointed prosecutor in every contempt case and it was illegal. The bench asked him as to why he filed the application as in such cases there was a little scope for third person to become a party.
The AG during last hearing had also submitted evidences against Gilani, comprising previous orders on NRO case, NRO review case and NRO implementation case.PM Gilani’s council Aitzaz Ahsan was also present in the court on this occasion however, he will defend all the evidences, presented by the prosecution during the next hearing.The Supreme Court had indicted Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in a court contempt case on Feb 13.Gilani is facing charges that he did not write a letter to Swiss authorities to reopen cases against President asif Ali Zardari. – Onlinenews
