Pakistan’s mediaISLAMABAD: Prominent journalists and subject specialists from across the country are set to participate in a two-day media workshop titled “Pakistan’s media: Present and future” from November 25-26 at a local hotel.

The workshop is hosted by Individualland Pakistan, an Islamabad based non-profit development organisation, actively engaged with the Pakistani media in particular through active consultation and sensitisation; along with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF).

The conference will focus upon the extremely important facilitative role of the vibrant Pakistani media, on mediating and communicating in socio-political and economic spaces. A way forward will also be devised during the conference to address the challenges discussed during the sessions. The media conference will revolve around five major themes, including Citizens’ Media Space Vs Commercial Space, Dissecting the Jihadi/Militant Media, Gender and Media, Challenges for Working Journalists and Tools for Free, Independent and Responsible Media (FIRM).

Shahzada Zulfiqar (senior journalist), Umar Cheema, Saiful Islam Saifi (Peshawar Press Club), Mazhar Arif (Society for Alternative Media and Research), Wajahat Masood (senior journalist), Aniq Zafar (Communication Research Strategies) and Amir Rana (Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies) will be participating in the sessions. The two-day event will be chaired by Adnan Rehmat), Dr Samina Ahmed (International Crisis Group), Simi Kamal (Gender Equity Program), Ghazi Salahuddin (Jang Group) and Absar Alam.

Recently, Individualland Pakistan with the support of USAID and Aurat Foundation conducted workshops in nine leading cities across Pakistan to sensitise the media on gender equity issues. These workshops were a great success as far as the participation of the media was concerned. – Dailytimes
