PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Thursday arrested Muhammad Rahim Khan, Additional Secretary (administration) on charges of corruption and misuse of authority.
According to a press release, he was involved in appointment of dozens of class-IV employees in Civil Secretariat Peshawar through misusing his authority and violation of rules and regulations. “It was brought into the notice of NAB that accused Khan being Additional Secretary (admin) entered into malpractices, misuse of authority and embezzlement. NAB took cognizance of the matter and authorised investigations,” it said in a press statement. “After collection of necessary evidence a final investigation report was submitted”.
The accused was posted as deputy secretary in April 2008. “On the approval of competent authority Rs 841.970 million were deposited in one of the account for the purchase of helicopters released by the Finance Department for subsequent payment to the suppliers. Thus an amount of Rs 829.08 million was paid to suppliers leaving a balance of Rs 13.579 million in the account,” the NAB statement said.
It alleged that the accused “illegally transferred” an amount of Rs 11.723 million out of the unspent amount through debit authorities and embezzled. “Moreover, 50 percent rental incomes generated from Shahi Mehman Khana Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, Islamabad, Rs 8.409 million were embezzled. – Dailytimes
