KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Wednesday inaugurated a 400-bedded tertiary care teaching university hospital, college of pharmacy, gymnasium and boys hostel at Ojha Campus of the Dow University Hospital, Karachi.
The hospital has been set up to serve the undergraduate students and postgraduate students of Dow International Medical College (DIMC). It will also serve as a teaching unit for the Institute of Nursing and Clinical Pharmacology.The hospital is also supported with diagnostic facilities from Dow diagnostic and research laboratories and Dow radiology, both of which are equipped with cutting edge technology and well-trained technologists and faculty.
It is equipped with an operation theatre complex, intensive care unit (ICU) and a neonatal care unit to support all kinds of operations and treatment for critically ill patients. Expert consultants are performing all types of major and minor surgeries. Labour room is also functional round the clock along with a fully equipped ICU.The governor pledged to make Dow University a medical and research complex of the country in future.
He further said that the provincial government is working hard to provide quality education. Since its establishment nearly seven years ago, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) has undergone tremendous expansion under the able and dynamic leadership of its first Vice Chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan with an establishment of 50 new institutes, he noted.The governor appreciated the efforts of faculty members in the establishment and development of university. He said that it was essential to ensure that the investment of country in education bears fruitful results for the society.
Vice Chancellor DUHS said that the hospital was established to meet the growing demand of healthcare services. The varsity since its inception has been aiming to provide maximum possible health services to the community through various ways, he added.He recounted the progress of the university since its inception and highlighted its developments.He informed that since it was first established in 2003 with three constituent institutions, the university has progressed by leaps and bounds for reaching almost 40 institutions till date.
He said that the vision and mission of DUHS was to focus on three domains namely academic excellence, human resource development and community healthcare.Pro-Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof M Umer Farooq, Principal Dow Medical College Prof Dr Junaid Ashraf and senior professors and faculty members were also present on the occasion. – Dailytimes
