Sindh govt to provide flour, wheat to rain-affected people

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Minister Syed Qaim Ali ShahKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that food, particularly wheat and flour, are the earliest requirements of people affected by recent torrential rains. He was presiding over a meeting regarding a scheme of free flour and wheat for the needy people in rain-affected areas, at his office here on Wednesday.

A scheme for free supply of flour or wheat is being envisaged by the Sindh Food Department, for which an effective programme is to be chalked out soon. Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Ali Arshad Hakeem informed the meeting that NADRA has established its 11 centres in Badin, 16 in Shaheed Benazirabad and three in Tando Muhammad Khan.

Now, the number of centres in Badin district is being increased to 16 while nine more centres will be established in Tando Muhammad Khan for the issuance of Pakistan Cards. He further said that one-window operation would be evolved for the distribution of relief goods. He stressed to determine a plan of wheat or flour quantity for each family on a week or per month basis. After a detailed discussion, it was decided that complete assessment of losses, total persons affected, district-wise needs of wheat and flour be finalised so that needy people are supplied with food for their daily consumption. – dailytimes
