LAHORE: Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has started planting 10 times the number of total trees that were removed for the widening of the Canal Bank Road. A press statement issued by PHA on Sunday stated that 568 trees had been cut from the area extending from Jail Road Underpass to Doctor’s Hospital Underpass, adding that the PHA would plant 5,680 trees in their place as per the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The SC had ordered them to plant four times more trees, however, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif gave directions to plant 10 times more trees. The statement further said that new trees would also be planted between Mughalpura Underpass and Jallo area, near the canal bank. PHA experts were of the view that these trees will have better growth opportunities in the selected areas due to the availability of wide green belts and lesser trees. – Dailytimes
