LAHORE: Punjab Agriculture Secretary Arif Nadeem said that a team of 50 entamologists was working at union council level for eliminating the breeding places of dengue mosquitoes in the city. He said this while briefing the media about the situation of dengue fever at King Edward Medical University on Thursday. He said that officers and officials of Solid Waste Management, PHA and other concerned departments had been included in this team while MNA Sardar Iyaz Sadiq was supervising it.

He said that 603 confirmed cases of dengue fever had been reported throughout the province during the last 24 hours, of which 499 were from Lahore. He said that at present, 1,366 patients were under treatment in various hospitals, while 8,217 patients had recovered so far. He said that free treatment facilities were being provided to patients in government hospitals. He further said that the total number of dengue patients had reached 8,820, with 7,992 belonging to Lahore. He said that dengue fever had not been controlled so far, adding that it had become a social problem.

He said that despite fumigation in the city by the government, the problem still exists in houses, as dengue mosquitoes breed in the water standing in houses. Therefore every citizen should ensure cleanliness in his house by taking part in the campaign against dengue, he added. – Dailytimes
