KARACHI: Many roads and streets in the city went inundated as heavy rains lashed Karachi on Tuesday afternoon, creating traffic jams and widespread power outages in various areas.Thundershowers broke the spell of heat and turned the weather pleasant; however, they also sent the low-laying areas of the city in knee-deep rainwater.A number of roads including M.A Jinnah Road, Sharah-e-Faisal and Main University Road also went inundated, creating problems for motorists.
Areas near flyovers and underpasses were also badly affected, where the municipal administration deployed workforce and machinery to pump out the accumulated rainwater.A man was was electrocuted near KDA Chowrangi, North Nazimabad, when he accidently touched a KESC pole. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.Several injured bikers were rushed to different hospitals, as dozens of motorcycles skidded on slippery roads in different areas.A number of areas in the city faced power outages with the first drop of rain. However, the pace of rectifying electricity faults remained painfully slow. The Met Office has forecast cloudy weather with chances of rain in Karachi during next 24 hours. – Dawn
