KARACHI: The second phase of Pakistan’s sixth population and house census in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will start on Aug 22.During the census process, voters’ lists will be verified and a fresh computerised electoral roll will be managed. An office memorandum has been issued to verifying officials and areas assigned to them. The census is mandatory to be conducted in the country after every 10 years. The first census in the country was held in 1951, second in 1961, third in 1972, fourth in 1981 and fifth in 1998.
Twenty thousand enumerators, who had been provided training of house listing, have started work in the country. These enumerators visited door to door to collect all the required data. In addition to census form, the Election Commission has provided a separate form to them. Every enumerator had to cover two to three blocks and every block had 200 to 400 houses.
A total of 146,270 enumerators comprising mostly teachers conducted the exercise in 424 districts in rural and urban areas of the country. The enumerators and associated workers were supervised by 3,626 district census officers and Tehsildars in the first stage of the population census, while 22,408 circle supervisors collected details of houses to conduct a detail survey of urban and rural areas.
There are 35,296 census blocks and 7,194 circles in Sindh and every circle has seven blocks while every block has 200 to 400 housing units. Every enumerator is supposed to report his progress to the relevant Deputy District Officer Revenue.Meanwhile, Chairman Government and Nationalised School Teachers Association Baldia Town Muhammad Tariq has said that the educational process will incur significant loss during Census-2011 since majority of the government teachers will perform census duty, eventually suspending the educational process totally or partially. – Dailytimes
