LAHORE: Punjab Health Secretary Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan has tasked health directors in ten separate towns across the city with supervising preventive arrangements for dengue fever, checking mosquito growth and provision of anti-mosquito sprays in the towns.

All the health directors would be working in collaboration with the city district government and are required to send a monitoring report to the health secretary on a daily basis. Khan said this, on Wednesday, while presiding over a meeting convened to review the arrangements for the prevention and treatment of dengue fever.

Health Special Secretary Waseem Mukhtar, Technical Additional Secretary Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Sulehrya, Health DG Dr Aslam Chaudhry, Deputy Secretary Saleha Saeed, CDC Director Dr Mubashar Malik and directors of all other towns also attended the meeting. The town directors presented their inspection reports in the meeting that revealed that stagnant water puddles were found in abundance in residential areas and heaps of garbage/solid waste was also found in streets. Moreover, water was found to be leaking from supply pipes at several places that were a haven for mosquitoes.

These preventive measures are being taken under the Health Education Campaign, initiated by the government.
