The government on Saturday promulgated Industrial Relations Ordinance 2011. The Ordinance has been approved by President Asif Ali Zardari on the advice of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.According to a press release issued by the Prime Minister House here, the government promulgated Industrial Relations Ordinance, 2011 in view of the current legal vacuum created due to deletion of the concurrent Legislative List through the 18th Constitutional Amendment. It said the Industrial Relations had also been transferred to the provinces which have promulgated provincial laws to regulate industrial relations.

However, there is no law in place to deal with Industrial Relations in the Islamabad Capital Territory or in respect of national level trade federations and for resolutions of trans-provincial industrial issues, the press release said.
Keeping in view that the Parliament was currently not in session therefore it became necessary to promulgate the Ordinance. The draft has already been approved by the Cabinet which will be subsequently presented to the Parliament, the press release added. – app
